Public Works covers three areas: Energy Systems, the Garage, and Roads and Walkways.
Energy Systems
The Energy Systems crew delivers electricity to all houses, buildings, and construction and temporary sites that require electrical power. Major tasks include installing new infrastructure such as transformers, hydro poles, power lines, guide wires, underground wiring and street lighting, then maintaining, repairing and replacing it as needed.
The crew also maintains and services hydroelectric distribution within the community and assists with the Mini Dam when required. Safety is our first priority.

Garage
The Garage Department works very closely with the Road and Walkways department to help in their requested repairs that is needed to help keep operations running.
The Garage also services the whole Cree Nation of Wemindji Fleet of Vehicles and equipment for all departments including the Airport and Transport Canada’s Equipment. All together there is 62 vehicles, 39 equipment, plus attachments and small motors that require maintenance and attention.
Maintain and service all the Cree Nation of Wemindji Vehicles and Equipment with the assistance of our Maintenance Prevention Plan while keeping all inspections up to date.

Roads and Walkways
The Road and Walkways strives to safety maintain all roads and sidewalks within the Community of Wemindji in winter and in summer used by pedestrians and Drivers. We also have the opportunities assisting and work closely with other Cree Nation of Wemindji departments, and entities by providing equipment and operators when requested for projects, and repairs of all types when needed.
